April 22, 2019: Munchkin Musings: April 2019

[Image]We're back with your monthly Munchkin missive, full of after-action reports, pre-action aspirations, and a heaping dollop of whimsy. Let's get started!

FnordCon 2019

On April 6 and 7, we hosted almost 150 eager gamers for FnordCon, our very first "house convention." We had two dedicated Munchkin tables with games of Munchkin Warhammer 40,000, Munchkin Warhammer Age of Sigmar, Munchkin Steampunk: Girl Genius, and our three upcoming mini-expansions (more about those later). All our games were full and I ended the weekend with an 0-5 record, unblemished by victory. At least I was consistent. Sunday featured heavy downpours, local flash floods, and tornado watches, so we got to give our out-of-town guests the full Austin experience. Luckily, all the rain stayed outside the venue.

As you can tell by the "2019" part of the header, we're talking over plans for next year . . . everyone had a great time and it would be a real shame not to repeat the fun in 2020! (No promises yet . . . but keep watching the Daily Illuminator!)

Girl Genius Sparks Enthusiasm

FnordCon was the first time the world (or the very small piece that was at the table) got to see the cards for Munchkin Steampunk: Girl Genius. We had a table of Girl Genius fans and they seemed to have a really fun time, so I feel confident this will be another winner! This expansion is on the water right now and we hope to have it in time to start shipping copies to our Kickstarter backers before the end of May.

Munchkin Warhammer Through Time and Space

As we told you last month, we're continuing to work with Games Workshop on more Munchkin Warhammer fun. This summer, in addition to two 112-card Munchkin Warhammer 40,000 expansions, we'll have a Kill-O-Meter and a set of six Chaos Dice . . . and both of these add-ons also come with cards, because of course they do! Munchkin Warhammer 40,000 is on store shelves now – if you don't see it, ask them to order it! – with a reprint coming in just a few weeks. Plus, this fall, Munchkin Warhammer Age of Sigmar will muscle its way into game stores, with expansions and accessories for that game coming in 2020. It's been a whole lot of fun to work on these games and I can't wait for everyone to see them! (As always, if your Friendly Local Game Store can't or won't get your games, check our Store Finder for other stores near you or do your shopping at Warehouse 23 – we'll be happy to sell you a whole bunch of stuff!)

Mini-Expansion Kickstarter Report

We recently wrapped up a Kickstarter campaign for three new Munchkin mini-expansions – Munchkin Cthulhu: Sanity Check, Munchkin Zombies: Grave Mistakes, and Star Munchkin: Landing Party. The campaign was a total success, achieving all planned stretch goals, and so each expansion will be 30 cards lovingly illustrated by Lar deSouza. If you missed the Kickstarter, you still have a chance to grab these; we'll be opening up the BackerKit pledge manager toward the end of the month, so keep checking that link (and watch here as well for the announcement).

Summer Conventions

Summer means hot sun, cold Big Red, and lots and lots of conventions. I'm currently planning to be at both Origins and Gen Con this year – my first time back to Origins in five years, I think – and Gen Con is always fun. We'll be talking about the cons more as the time draws closer!

Don't get ahead of yourselves, though; before we see anyone at these shows, we'll see you back here in a month for more Munchkin Musings!
